Addis Ababa offers numerous possibilities for hotel accommodations, ranging from top of the line full service Hotels to smaller Guest Houses and Pensions. Due to the expected number of attendees for ICASA 2011, we recommend that you make your hotel reservations at your earliest convenience and urge you not to wait until your arrival in Addis Ababa to secure housing. All accommodation is on a first come, first served basis, subject to availability. Addis Ababa is a large city and ICASA 2011 is a large conference. The ICASA 2011 Travel and Housing Management Site will allow us to assist you at every stage with any issues you should have upon arrival in Addis and during your stay here. It is highly recommended that all delegates, those registering in advance and those registering onsite, enter their travel plans into the ICASA 2011 Travel and Housing Management Site.

Once you have made your hotel reservations, please visit the ICASA 2011 Travel and Housing Management Site and enter your transportation plans and hotel reservation information as completely as possible. Transportation will be provided for ICASA delegates between their hotels and Millennium Hall, where ICASA 2011 will be held. However, transportation is only guaranteed to those delegates who use the ICASA 2011 Travel and Housing Management Site once they have made their hotel reservations.

While ICASA cannot make hotel reservations for you directly, we want to make sure that you have the best possible experience while visiting Addis Ababa to participate in ICASA 2011. ICASA 2011 Travel and Housing Management Site will allow us to confirm your bookings once you have made them and assure that you have transportation to and from the Millennium Hall Conference Center throughout your time at ICASA 2011.

ACCOMMODATION RESERVATION STEPS

  1. Visit the ICASA Accommodations Site (you are here!).
    1. Hotels are grouped based upon average room price, with individual room prices listed per hotel. Click on the room rate range that best fits your budget
    2. The lodging establishments listed on this website are the official ICASA Housing Sites. Only the establishments listed here will be serviced by ICASA Transportation and Housing Management.
  2. Choose a hotel.
    • The map that is linked at the top of each listing page shows the hotels in relation to Millennium Hall, where ICASA 2011 will be held.
  3. Email or call the hotel to make your reservation.
    1. Most hotels in Addis Ababa do not use online booking systems so it is recommended that you either email or call the hotel.
    2. If the hotel website offers a booking system or a reservation request form, please make sure you receive a confirmation number and/or email to verify your reservation has been made.
    3. Please note that hotels with reservation request systems make take 24 – 72 hours to respond to your request.
    4. Most hotels in Addis Ababa do not take a deposit.
      • If your hotel does, we highly recommend that you make a deposit to ensure your booking.
    5. Hotels that accept credit cards are noted throughout the directory.
      • Keep in mind that the credit card machines may not be functional at check-in or check-out, therefore plan for cash backup.
  4. Visit the ICASA 2011 Travel and Housing Management System
    1. This system that will allow us to confirm your bookings once you have made them and assure that you have transportation to and from the Millennium Hall Conference Center throughout your time at ICASA 2011.
    2. Transportation between Millennium Hall and the hotels is provided only for those ICASA delegates who have entered their lodging information into the ICASA 2011 Travel and Housing Management Site
  5. Enter your contact information, hotel reservation information and transportation plans as completely as possible.
    • Once you have entered the information, should your plans change, you will be able to re-access the site and change your information.
  6. Come to Addis and have a wonderful ICASA 2011 experience!

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT LODGING IN ADDIS ABABA

  1. ICASA cannot make a reservation for you – you must contact the hotel directly.
  2. Most hotels in Addis Ababa do not use online booking systems – it is recommended you call or email the hotel
  3. Hotels may take 24 – 72 hours to respond to your email
  4. Most hotels in Addis Ababa do not take a deposit
    • Although if your hotel does, we highly recommend that you make a deposit to ensure your booking
  5. Most hotels in Addis do not accept Credit Cards
    • Due to fluctuating communications, credit card machines are often out of service. Plan to have cash back up for your arrival deposit or departure bill.
  6. Rates vary at the hotels and some hotels may attempt to charge a different rate upon your arrival. Use of the ICASA 2011 Travel and Housing Management Site is the only way to ensure the rate you confirm is the rate you will pay upon arrival.

Hotels with an Average Room Rate of $49 and Under
Hotels with an Average Room Rate of $50 - $99
Hotels with an Average Room Rate of $100 - $149
Hotels with an Average Room Rate of $150 and Above

The rates offered herein are the rates guaranteed by the hotel for ICASA. These rates take precedence over any rates listed on the individual hotel websites as long as bookings are still available within the ICASA block of rooms. If you have any concerns about the rate you are offered by the hotel, please contact us. Use of the ICASA Travel and Housing Management Site will allow ICASA to ensure that the correct rate is charged during your stay in Addis.

HOTEL AND CONFERENCE TRANSPORTATION

Some of the hotels offer shuttles to and from the airport while many do not. Please clarify whether your hotel offers airport transportation. If it does not, please br prepared to secure a taxi upon arrival in Addis. ICASA 2011 will have staff on hand at the airport to assist you with this, but please make sure to bring cash for the taxi transaction.

ICASA 2011 will provide transportation between the hotels and the Millennium Hall Conference Center throughout ICASA 2011 to all delegates who have entered their housing information into the ICASA 2011 Travel and Housing Management Site. It is imperative that you enter your housing and travel information into the ICASA 2011 Travel and Housing Management Site in order for ICASA 2011 ensure timely and appropriate transportation within Addis Ababa.

Bathrooms may be private or shared, but are typically private. Hotels offer an in-house restaurant and breakfast is often included in the price of the lodging. Amenities vary depending on the hotel.

Guest House – A Guest House in Addis Ababa is a lodging establishment of any size that offer furnished lodging on a short or long term basis. Bedroom occupancy may very from single to suite. Bathrooms may be private or shared. Guest Houses may offer breakfast for occupants but do not have fully-serviced restaurant in house.

Pension – A Pension in Addis Ababa is a lodging establishment of any size that offer furnished lodging on a short or long term basis. Bedroom occupancy may very from single to suite. Bathrooms may be private or shared, but are often shared. Pensions tend to be smaller, more inexpensive establishments and may lack some of the amenities of hotels and guest houses. Some pensions are connected with full-service restaurants and may include breakfast in the lodging rate.

Apartment – An Apartment in Addis Ababa is a lodging establishment that only rents, on short or long-term basis, full furnished, fully equipped apartments. These can include single or multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, and neither bedrooms nor baths are shared with other apartments. Kitchens are standard in the apartment.
